Amazing scenes as Porto’s streets are swallowed by Ipomoea

Earlier this year Chris and I visited the cool city of Porto, Portugal. Within the first hour I’d spotted the vivid blue of Ipomoea growing over walls near the airport, like an alien bindweed (they’re closely related in the Convolvulus family). Although it is an invasive plant, as we walked around the Medieval parts of the city there was no denying the incredible beauty of this swamping monoculture.
