From the streets: Nine Elms Lane, Vauxhall urban planting

I first noticed the unusual oval shaped flower beds along the recently redeveloped Nine Elms Lane in Vauxhall this time last year soon after it had been planted. Little paths through the borders are an inspired touch, bringing people very close to plants. The selection of which were well considered and clearly the sign of good horticultural and garden design involvement. I’m pleased to say, a year later and they are obviously being expertly tended, looking fabulous with Hellebores, Euphorbia and Tulips all flowering. What a wonderful and low maintenance street display for a modern world.

  1. Looks like Euphorbia robbiae and possibly an Amelankia lamarkii tree in bud which will look great in two or three weeks.

    1. Thanks Annie! I can’t wait to go back and see it when it’s growing, it’s only about 10mins from us

  2. I can’t wait to go and see those beds – how fantastic that someone has taken the trouble to make a public place so beautiful. Who designed it I wonder? Here in Haringey the street plantings are a disgrace – still in the 1950s – depressing to see them every day.
    Anyway, lovely photos, great blog.
